Why accessibility matters
Making the web accessible means more people can use it, regardless of their circumstances or how they access a website.
Accessibility doesn’t only help people with permanent disabilities. There are lots of situations where someone may need a website to work differently.
For example:
- Permanent – someone who is blind, deaf or has a disability that affects how they use a website.
- Temporary – someone recovering from surgery, with an injury or a broken arm.
- Situational – trying to use a screen in bright sunlight, being somewhere noisy, or only having one hand free.
That’s why we try to consider accessibility throughout the things I build, rather than treating it as an extra at the end.
